I find this a little disheartening. Aaron Rodgers, quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, is wearing a different helmet that what the NFL regulates. It is this helmet that Rodgers claims prevented a concussion during the NFC championship football game against the Bears. With all the high school and college programs trying to prevent serious head trauma, they’re looking find out from Green Bay which type of helmet it is. Is Green Bay offering that information? No. My question: why not? Boo on Green Bay.

People need to learn to grow up. The Bears-Packers rivalry is one of the oldest in sports, but there other things to keep in mind. If someone wants to wear a tie, that’s his business. I don’t care if other members of the Bears are known to come around to the car dealership, firing someone over a tie is just thin-skinned. The customers thought it was funny, so if they think it was funny, that should be the ultimate judge.

I waited a few days for the disappointment to subside from the NFC championship game before venturing out into the sports world to see what the media thought of the Bears game this past Sunday. I had my opinions and most of the people who study the subject seriously had the same opinion. The Bears just did not play well. No one player deserves all the blame; it was a team wide collapse. The coaches made questionable calls, it was just a bad game.

This weekennd looks to be a great one for football fans. Chicago faces off against old rival Green Bay. I am very happy to see tThe Patriots eliminated from the picture. These guys are the football equivalent of the Yankees with Belicheck acting as Steinbrenner. Anytime New England loses is a good weekend for me.

For my money, when I want to keep track of what is going on in the NFL playoffs, I turn to none other than Gregg Easterbrook. For those of you who don’t know, he calls himself the Tuesday Morning Quarterback. What I love about reading his column is that I don’t have to know which player he is talking about, I just have to know what teams played and his simple analysistakes care of the rest.

I’ll be honest, I only watch football to see what the Chicago Bears are doing this week. Since they won the division a few weeks ago, I haven’t had a need or desire to follow the rest of the league. It doesn’t affect me what other teams do. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the first round of the playoffs are set for this Saturday. I checked to see if hte Bears are playing, but since they aren’t, I’ll wait until Monday to see who they’re playing.

Congratulations to the Chicago Bears for accomplishing two things. The first being the NFC North division title. Sports analysts didn’t pick the Bears to do much this year except lose more than win, so it’s nice to see a Chicago team stick it to the so called experts. The second accomplishment was to hopefully knock some sense into Brett Favre and realize now is the time to hang up the cleats.

It might be safe to say that Favres’ career is like the Metrodome roof. It imploded. I honestly think he should have retired despite the stats he generated last year. I don’t know the specifics, but some say it was one of the best, if not the best, years statistically for him last year. More people seem to remember the soap opera-ish way he toyed with everyone more that his play. I hope that’s not what he wanted. This year, his play is not up to par, he has an injury affecting sensation in his hand, and the Vikings are officially out of the playoffs. I never make certainty statement when it comes to this guy, but the writing may finally be on the wall. Get ready to retire his number.

The World Series starts tonight. Who are rooting for? The Barry Bonds-less San Francisco Giants or the Texas Rangers. I didn’t give the Rangers much chance of even making it to the post-season. But since they made it to their first World Series by striking out A-Rod, I may have to root for them.

After another week, San Francisco is still making a run for it. They’ve taken a two game lead into the League series against Philly. I really hope they win. Philly fans are starting to get as insufferable as Boston fans were before the 2004 Series. We know your team has had some tough times in all sports, but suck it up. There are other teams with just as loyal fan bases who don’t get to see their team on the national stage too often. So, enjoy it while it lasts.
