I was meaning to write this the other day, but forgot all about it until I opened my box of frozen Thin Mint cookies tonight! Since when did Girl Scouts stop going door to door to sell their cookies? You wonder why our youth doesn’t learn anything, they won’t even go door to door to learn a valuable life lesson (I really don’t know which lesson, but it is). The other night I bought some girl scout cookies from too young girls who had a stand set up at the local grocery store. Very smart idea, if they had come up with it on their own, which I highly doubt! Thanks mom and dad; or worse, the corporate Girl Scout plan! Honestly, I started thinking about it though, when was the last time you saw a girl scout going door to door? I know in the 5 previous years I have bought my girl scout cookies from a girl scout’s parent! I don’t think I’ve even seen one dressed in any sort of uniform in a long time.
Now not to make it a battle of the sexes (between pre-teens nonetheless), but I know the Boy Scouts are making their rounds the next two weeks to collect nonperishable food items for those in need. I have also seen those kids in their uniforms in recent months, their packs come by the radio station for tours of our building from time to time.
Now that I’m done complaining about it, I’m going to eat my Thin Mints, thanks Girl Scouts.

Looking up at the twinkling evening sky is a magnificent sight that goes on through the night. As the sun falls asleep in its den, the five visible planets of March come out to play. The laughter and giggles from Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn echo through the evening sky as they dance and sing the whole night away. Then out comes the sun from its sleeping den to hide the 5 splendid planets of March in the morning sky.
Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Mars decide to pop out at dusk first thing, while lazy Saturn waits around until later in the evening to pop out over the eastern horizon. As these brilliant planets of March stretch out in the evening sky, they find their way in the parade of stars. Mars rises to the eastern section of the night sky as Mercury sets in the western section of the night sky. Saturn joins Mars in the east while Jupiter follows Mercury in the west. Venus decides to go with Mercury and Jupiter in the western night sky to blaze away with Jupiter. For Venus and Jupiter, they take center stage as the third-brightest and fourth-brightest planets of March.

That is one of the names I’m thinking about using for my future career as a weather man! Spring has sprung… didn’t I just talk about this the other day? Seriously March 13th and it was beautiful out. On the way home from work, it was like a scene from a movie, I’ve never seen so many families out walking, riding bike and playing in the park. All the bikes got me thinking I need to buy a new bicycle, but I only trust Huffy. Are adults allowed to still get Huffy’s?
After my dreams of a new bike, I had to leave home right away and head up to the college for a Severe Weather Spotter Training class. It’s a one night class that I’ve taken for the last 5 years, I’m kind of a weather geek so it’s a lot of fun. The AM radio station I work for is full service and we’re first with News, Weather and Sports; so during the severe weather season it really comes in handy to be trained weather spotter. If nothing else it sounds great to say on the air!
Larry Sprinkles? Martin Showers? Skip Waters? ooooh Ray Ban? They all could be a really good Weatherman name.

This was a great weekend, had some work, but otherwise spent my time relaxing and listening to the Minnesota Twins spring training game. Yeah, Baseball! We have a new play by play guy this year as long time announcer, John Gordon retired. Cory Provus has replaced Gordon and so far has been a joy to listen to. Provus was working for the Brewers with baseball legend Bob Uecker, but joined the Twins this offseason. I’m sure a lot of people are watching the games on tv, but it’s simply Americana when you listen to a game on the radio. His voice is going to be a great fit too, sometimes if you don’t got the right voice or delivery it ruins the broadcast.
I also dabbled into some other sport news this weekend, including hoops. I’ve never been a huge basketball fan, but I know Ricky Rubio was a big deal for the T-wolves and now he is out for the season! Possibly ending what has been a very exciting for the wolves! Football can’t keep themselves out of the news either, now I like football, but somehow we can’t go a week with out some sort of big news story. I think it might planned out that way, which is good for them, annoying for some of us. The Saints story was almost 2 weeks ago, and then Peyton Manning last week. I wonder what the story will be this week?
Well, in the mean time I’m going to pull my Twins jerseys out of the closet and get ready for the season, maybe I need a new Twins hat.

Wow, it has been a beautiful day! Could March 6 be the start of Spring? I think so. It has been a great day, so much so I totally forgot about blogging until just now. Steaks and burgers were on the grill and the roommate made some potatoes and beans! Today, I made my way home from work and made the stop at Hy-Vee to pick up all the proper items. It was a debate between which meat to have, so I decided on both!
Grilling is one of my Top 5 favorite things in the spring and summer months, there is something special about it. The food is always great, but actually, better than that is the friends that gather around as it cooks. We always talk about each others day, a crazy story from the weekend, no matter what it is, that’s the best part. Well that and munching on chips and peanuts.
It really was a great day, even before the grilling tonight. Nothing makes me feel better than driving in a freshly cleaned truck on sun filled day, put a good song on the radio and we’re set! I might have took time out of work to wash my truck, don’t judge.
Happy Grilling!

I’m starting something new and possibly growing as a person as I’m now starting to blog about my life. It’s going to be different, I’ve never been good at sharing stories about myself, so hopefully this will help. It’s kind of interesting though, I love talking, that’s why I work in radio. I share stories on-air all the time, but never really about something I’m doing. I wonder why that is? I love meeting random people, talking and learning stories about their lives, but then never can open up about anything awesome I’m doing.
Let’s take this weekend for instance, I was on my first date in 6 months and it went great. First, I went to Target for a new shirt and good smelling cologne, then I went to pick her up. We went to eat at this little pizza place, had a wonderful conversation mostly about her life and what she’s excited for in the future. As we sat at dinner I figured out why I don’t like talking about myself; at any given moment I feel like I’m over sharing about my life. Who cares what I do at my job, I barely do most days. Anyway, I’ve always heard dinner and a movie is a terrible idea for the first date, because you sit in silence during the movie. So instead, being the genius I am, we went and listened to some live music. We had to yell at each other over the music, so it might not have been the best idea, but you do break the touch barrier when you lean in to hear what is being said. At the end of the date, I think it was safe to say if they were hanging out Oscar’s for being smooth, not only would I have been nominated, I would have won and been thanking the academy! We made plans to see each other again and this time learn more about me, oh boy!

It was like Christmas morning on Saturday as my kids looked out the window in excitement as it began to snow. Without hesitation they happily cheered and ask if they can go play outside. “Finally!”, they say, as they get ready to have fun playing in the snow.
Snow balls fly through the air as kids play in the snow. Laughing echoes in the fields as they go sledding down the hill. The kids are having fun while dad is shoveling snow off the driveway.

Inspiration is always good to come by now and again. For me, I like to find inspiration on the web. As a person of visual learning and understanding, I enjoy inspiration dealing with web design. It’s always reassuring to me to find well organized, visual appealing, interesting to look at websites.
In my search for inspiration I came across Six Revisions that list useful information for web developers and designers. I enjoyed looking at some vibrantly colored websites from their Design Showcase section, 30 Strikingly Vibrant Web Designs for Inspiration. It’s nice to see what’s out there and pick up some inspiration along the way.

The world of visual communication is all around us. On the streets, inside and outside stores and buildings, on television, on the web, on reading materials, and where ever you look. It’s everywhere! It’s a part of life and I like it.
Visual communication is a way of demonstrating ideas that can eventually help to achieve goals. It’s a way of expressing creative and technical techniques to help us better understand ourselves and each other. It’s all about developing the appropriate look and feel that responds to the decision of communicating a development of visual styles, influences, and trends.
