Why does every movie all of a sudden need to be one of those 3D movies? The only movies that really deserve this are those with really interesting visual effects. I hate to admit it, but the movie Avatar deserved the 3D treatment. Most of the others released since then is nothing more than an attempt to cash in on an old fad.

For those who think George Lucas is all about the art instead of the money, read this. Lucasfilm is planning on releasing his magnum opus, the Star Wars saga, in 3D starting with episode 1 in 2012. Each year will see the next movie in line released as long as the people line up to see it. How many more versions of these movies do we need?

Is anyone planning on going to see the new Facebook movie coming out this week? I know we’re all addicted to Facebook, but do we really want to know the seedy details of its creators? I have enough issues in my own life to keep myself entertained, I don’t need to watch someone else’s.

I’m a big fan of the entire star Trek franchise, but I have to say that this latest movie from J.J. Abrams is my current favorite. It a perfect mix of action, fun, acknowledging the history of the franchise while embarking in a new direction. I will always have an affinity for William Shatner, but this new crew is too much fun to not make sequels.

Some people apparently want to start the next decade as soon as possible. Some have even gone so far as to offer a mid-year worst movies list for 2010. Now, the author did add the tag “so far” to his article, but he seems to really be interested in getting this year done. So, my question, is how appropos are his selections? Anyone go see some bad movies this year?

How starved are we for entertainment and original stories that we’re making movies examining the origins of a social network site. Facebook is extremely popular, but does it really need an origin movie? I can’t begin to imagine how they will make this interesting.

Here’s a little philosophical question for you: Does watching a movie in 3D enhance the experience? I’ve seen a couple of 3D movies, and I think I can honestly say that the experience of watching the movie in that format doesn’t add much for me. When I go to a movie, my main reason to see it is the plot. And the plot is not necessarily something that can be enhanced with 3D .

Can someone please tell me when Mel Gibson officially jumped the shark, or nuked the fridge, or emptied his marble bag? I honestly loved the guy in the Lethal Weapon series, but all these audio tapes coming out of him uncensored is really making me think twice about whether to list him as an actor I like to watch. I’m sorry, some people can overlook this and appreciate his work, but for me, I have to respect the individual first. And if these tapes are legitimate, my respect is probably gone.

From the “huh?” department comes an accusation that the latest Toy Story movie is sexist and degrading toward women. Apparently, the female characters in the movies and the overall series are nothing more than stereotypes. And that’s degrading to women. I think kids are smart enough to understand the equality of gender, and there are women all over trumpeting this message. Trust me, there will be no shortage of people who understand women’s aptitudes and attitudes.
