Sports! Sports! Sports!

Posted on March 12th, 2012 by Jeff

This was a great weekend, had some work, but otherwise spent my time relaxing and listening to the Minnesota Twins spring training game. Yeah, Baseball! We have a new play by play guy this year as long time announcer, John Gordon retired. Cory Provus has replaced Gordon and so far has been a joy to listen to. Provus was working for the Brewers with baseball legend Bob Uecker, but joined the Twins this offseason. I’m sure a lot of people are watching the games on tv, but it’s simply Americana when you listen to a game on the radio. His voice is going to be a great fit too, sometimes if you don’t got the right voice or delivery it ruins the broadcast.

I also dabbled into some other sport news this weekend, including hoops. I’ve never been a huge basketball fan, but I know Ricky Rubio was a big deal for the T-wolves and now he is out for the season! Possibly ending what has been a very exciting for the wolves! Football can’t keep themselves out of the news either, now I like football, but somehow we can’t go a week with out some sort of big news story. I think it might planned out that way, which is good for them, annoying for some of us.  The Saints story was almost 2 weeks ago, and then Peyton Manning last week. I wonder what the story will be this week?

Well, in the mean time I’m going to pull my Twins jerseys out of the closet and get ready for the season, maybe I need a new Twins hat.

Who Needs Spring Break?

Posted on March 9th, 2012 by Jeff

I’ve never gone on any sort of Spring Break vacation and I never really regret it. Each year when the college kids jet off to warm, sandy beach destinations I always think about it though. For one, how are they funding these trips? If the logistics wasn’t costly enough, all the beer consumed on the trip would sure put a dent in my wallet! Oh, to be young and free with no worries. Hahaha.

We had beautiful weather today: sun shine, temp near 45 degrees… It wasn’t bad, so as I left work I rolled the window down, cranked the radio up and enjoyed the drive home. Now I really have no clue, but that sense of accomplishment after a day of work on the way home has to be somewhat close to what jetting off some sandy beach feels like? We’re  free into the weekend, although there may not be as many days or as many bikinis I sure think the moments of relaxation we spend in the chair with a cold beer after work are some of the finest. Maybe by the time I’m 30 I’ll figure out some flight on Delta and take any plane out of here.

Clean Truck!

Posted on March 6th, 2012 by Jeff

Wow, it has been a beautiful day! Could March 6 be the start of Spring? I think so. It has been a great day, so much so I totally forgot about blogging until just now. Steaks and burgers were on the grill and the roommate made some potatoes and beans! Today, I made my way home from work and made the stop at Hy-Vee to pick up all the proper items. It was a debate between which meat to have, so I decided on both!

Grilling is one of my Top 5 favorite things in the spring and summer months, there is something special about it. The food is always great, but actually, better than that is the friends that gather around as it cooks. We always talk about each others day, a crazy story from the weekend, no matter what it is, that’s the best part. Well that and munching on chips and peanuts.

It really was a great day, even before the grilling tonight. Nothing makes me feel better than driving in a freshly cleaned truck on sun filled day, put a good song on the radio and we’re set! I might have took time out of work to wash my truck, don’t judge.

Happy Grilling!

1st blog post / 1st date

Posted on March 5th, 2012 by Jeff

I’m starting something new and possibly growing as a person as I’m now starting to blog about my life. It’s going to be different, I’ve never been good at sharing stories about myself, so hopefully this will help. It’s kind of interesting though, I love talking,  that’s why I work in radio. I share stories on-air all the time, but never really about something I’m doing. I wonder why that is? I love meeting random people, talking and learning stories about their lives, but then never can open up about anything awesome I’m doing.

Let’s take this weekend for instance, I was on my first date in 6 months and it went great. First, I went to Target for a new shirt and good smelling cologne, then I went to pick her up. We went to eat at this little pizza place, had a wonderful conversation mostly about her life and what she’s excited for in the future. As we sat at dinner I figured out why I don’t like talking about myself; at any given moment I feel like I’m over sharing about my life. Who cares what I do at my job, I barely do most days. Anyway, I’ve always heard dinner and a movie is a terrible idea for the first date, because you sit in silence during the movie. So instead, being the genius I am,  we went and listened to some live music. We had to yell at each other over the music, so it might not have been the best idea, but you do break the touch barrier when you lean in to hear what is being said. At the end of the date, I think it was safe to say if they were hanging out Oscar’s for being smooth, not only would I have been nominated, I would have won and been thanking the academy! We made plans to see each other again and this time learn more about me, oh boy!

Gone is my excuse of being too old to do karate

Posted on August 9th, 2011 by Admin

Well I guess I dont have an excuse to not be healthy and do some excersice. Just two years before her 100th birthday, Sensei Keiko Fukuda has  become the first woman to achieve  a tenth-degree black belt—the highest rank in the martial art and combat sport Judo. Fukuda is now one of only four living people who’ve earned the tenth-degree (or dan) black belt. To put the accomplishment into better perspective, throughout history, only sixteen people have ever achieved this honor.

I need to get my butt in the gym or go and take karate and I can never use the excuse of I am too old to join karate because Sensei Keiko has proven that you are never too old to do karate or get the highest black belt.

Amazon

Posted on April 27th, 2011 by admin

It’s fun to watch the little things that computers do that humans don’t catch right away. I was reading a recent post from a guy who noticed an alarming trend on Amazon. There was a book that was listed by two different retailers at almost $2 million. These merchants were using auto-pricing algorithms to set the prices, but something got lost in the translation.

Architecture

Posted on April 26th, 2011 by admin

Most of the time when I read about new age architecture, it’s about buildings in Europe or in the Orient somewhere. So, I was a little surprised to see this building is actually in New York City.

Obama’s chase

Posted on April 19th, 2011 by admin

Obama is getting set to start the money chase for his re-election. I know a lot of people are divided on how he has done this first four years. The detractors say get him out while his supporters say he did the best with the situation possible. However he plans to do it, it probably wouldn’t hurt to have some amazing display showcasing his successes.

RMS Titanic

Posted on April 15th, 2011 by admin

I am fascinated by history and this marks the 99th anniversary of the Titanic‘s sinking. We’ve all seen the James Cameron film at least once, but I was fascinated when Bob Ballard found it in 1986. So, I was rooting around the internet and found out that someone had posted a menu from the first class dining room. They had a ten course meal that would make many today blush at the decadence of it.
